La force d’un homme ne coûte pas grand-chose, alors pourquoi s’embarrasser d’engins plus coûteux et capricieux qu’une horde d’ouvriers dociles ? Les Bangladais constituent la main-d’œuvre la moins chère au monde et nombreux sont les autres pays qui l’ont compris. Les investissements directs de l’étranger vont bon train et les emplois fourmillent tout autour de Dhaka. Une providence qui cache le peu de considération portée à la main-d’œuvre disponible. Qui se souciera de l’ouvrier qui trébuche ? En tout cas pas l’employeur qui aura tôt fait de le remplacer par un autre. Ils sont mis en cale sèche pour être radoubés. Le chantier ne comporte aucun vérin, pas même un système hydraulique pour tracter et soulever les navires. Les têtes, écailles, peaux, ainsi que tous les restes rejetés par les pêcheurs sont transformées en farine, vendue comme aliment pour la volaille, pour l’aquaculture ou comme engrais organique.
